What I have been reading - 25th November 2019
Another week with an awful lot of good stuff. Here are my top picks:
Pizza Delivery is for Millionaires: I have been following Mr Money Mustache for some time. He fascinates me. He is credited with starting the FIRE movement (Financially Independent, Retire Early). Some argue his approach is extreme. I would agree to some extent, but I find his writing a welcome antidote to today's culture of excess. His articles always refocus my mind. "We get used to our daily routine, and think of it as "normal", even if it is completely ridiculous."
The best investment you can make: Of course, it's your relationships.
Why affluent parents are increasingly involved in their millennial children's prenuptial agreements: This is something many of you will think about in due course, if you haven't already. A difficult, sensitive and emotional topic.
Billionaire Louis Bacon is closing legendary hedge fund to clients: Another one bites the dust. This is a reminder that "past performance is not indicative of future results." Let me reiterate, past performance is NOT indicative of future results.
If every day were Thanksgiving: In less than 50 words, Seth Godin says it all.
Tricks online retailes use to get you to spend more: None of this is a surprise. The best thing I ever did was unsubscribe from every online retailer's emails. If you don't see the stuff, you don't buy it.
The Zen of Weightlifting: I agree with this author 100%. Adding weight lifting into my workouts (through CrossFit) has given me joy and satisfaction and I am stronger today than I have ever been in my life. I know women are often scared of lifting weights for fear of 'getting bulky'. What I learned is that building muscle is harder than you think. 'Body builders' lift for hours every day. Lifting weights three or four times a week will make you lean, strong and happy.
FINALLY:
The Cyber Truck: Did you see the Tesla Cyber Truck? It's the most extraordinary thing. Watch this video. I mean, it's ridiculous, but I sort of like it. If you want to watch the full unveil by Elon Musk, you can get it here. Forward to 7 minutes 20 seconds to see the moment a metal ball shatters the "bullet proof" glass. Everyone should watch this because Elon is either going to save the planet or go down as the biggest conman of all time. I wouldn't want to bet on which one.
ENJOY!
