Please Be Reminded

Please be reminded that the markets mostly go up but sometimes go down.

Please be reminded that they can go down a lot, quickly.

Please be reminded that the falls are always temporary.

Please be reminded that we should expect a fall of around 15% every year, whether we want it or not.

Please be reminded that when it happens, the best thing to do is ignore it.

Please be reminded that approximately once every five years the market falls a third or more.

Please be reminded that we cannot know when it is going to happen because the economy cannot be forecast and the market cannot be timed.

Please be reminded that you don’t own casino chips.  You own all of the best companies on the planet.

Please be reminded that the price of those companies goes up over time because the earnings of those companies goes up over time.

Please be reminded that the earnings of those companies goes up over time because they find new markets to operate in, they develop new products and services, they get more efficient, they innovate.

Please be reminded that the only way to capture the remarkable long-term return of those companies is to buy when you have the money available, and sell only when you need the money.

Please be reminded that the less you look at your investment account the happier you will be.

Please be reminded that whilst all that sounds simple, it is not easy.

Please be reminded that I am here for precisely that reason.

Best

Georgie
