What we have been reading - 17th October 2022
Here’s what we enjoyed over the past few weeks:
What is in your control: A quick reminder about what is in your control and what is out of your control.
Murphy's Law: This is one financial commentator's account of his painful experience building a home. This is essential reading for anyone who is thinking of embarking on a home project.
How much pain can you take?: Mark Manson explores the optimal amount of pain - too much will leave to trauma and helplessness, too little will lead to entitlement and selfishness.
There will be drawdowns: One of my favourites, Charlie Bilello, explains the inevitability of drawdowns. "Without them, there would be no forward progress for you can't have upside without occasional downside."
Back to fundamentals: The markets may change, but the principles endure.
Are ambitious parents bad parents?: This is close to the bone.
Life Time: Your body clock and it's essential roles in good health and sleep: I am becoming more obsessed with sleep as I get older. I learned a few things in this article.
FINALLY:
Strokes, heart attacks, sudden deaths: Does America understand the long-term risks of catching COVID?: The narrative around COVID has changed recently with data that is beginning to show the risk of re-infections. Long COVID is becoming better understood and it's not pretty. There are strange things happening in children too.
ENJOY!
