What I have been reading - 7th December 2020

Procrastinate Much? Manage your emotions, not your time: I really liked this article by Adam Grant. Since lockdown I have found writing hard and have not got back to my weekly habit (it has become bi-weekly). I think I have started to judge my work more critically. This article reminded me to shift the focus from what readers might think.

How a former pizza hut delivery guy used TikTok and Instagram to build Gymshark into a billion dollar sportwear brand: I have never heard of Gymshark, which says a lot about the target market (18 year olds on TikTok). But what an extraordinary story - a company started by a pizza delivery guy because 'he couldn't find a shirt that would properly show off his guns' now has a valuation of $1.4 billion. Anything is possible folks.

I started trading hot stocks on Robinhood. Then I couldn't stop: Jason Zweig, the archetypal long-term, patient investor, gives a vivid account of day trading on the platform Robinhood. It's scary how addictive this stuff is. Warren Buffett once said "speculation is most dangerous when it looks easiest."

A Sensible and Compassionate Anti-COVID Strategy: This is a must-read article from Jay Bhattacharya, Professor of Medicine at Stanford University. I was reminded again this week about how the fear of this disease is impacting behaviour in the Cayman Islands. Dr Bhattacharya writes "the perception of too many people about COVID is frozen in the misleading data from March." The repercussions of the policy decisions around the world will be felt for years. I continue to believe that we will look back on this time and ask ourselves 'what on earth were we thinking?'

You should ignore investment advice from these 6 people: An entertaining and important article from Tony Isola.

Warning Signs of Untrustworthy Financial Advisors: Related to the article above, an article with seven signs that suggest someone might not be trustworthy. A good one to share with any friends or family members who are seeking financial advice.

FINALLY:
Love and Money - and How They're Connected: This article gets deep quickly. A powerful reminder that nothing around money is easy.

ENJOY!
