What I have been reading - 6th January 2020
Here’s what I enjoyed reading over the past week:
Don't make things more complicated than necessary: I always say, personal finance isn't rocket science. It's the gap between the 'knowing' and the 'doing' that's the problem. Here's a great article that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about personal finance. "Spend less than you earn. Do something smart with what's left."
5 common mistakes that cause new habits to fail: James Clear is a genius. Everything he says makes so much sense. Apply some of these principles to your life in 2020 and it can only get better.
Your watch says more about your status than you think: As a non-watch person (you will often see me wearing a $50 Swatch) I found this interesting.
2020: what a time to be alive: Thank you to Morgan Housel for reminding us that the world is getting better. It's always getting better. "A common theme in history is that progress happens too slowly to notice while setbacks happen too quickly to overlook. There are many overnight tragedies. There are no overnight miracles."
The bosess who walk the walk on paternity leave: An article in The Wall Street Journal looks at fathers who are taking time off to care for their newborns. I don't think we will reach equality in the workplace until men and women share this load. Cayman is moving towards giving women longer than 12 weeks maternity leave, but wouldn't it be amazing to see paternity leave too?
I gotta say, it was a good year: Here's a sensible perspective (as always) on the 2019 returns from Ben Carlson.
FINALLY:
Ten handy phases for bluffing your way through the coming Iran crisis: My knowledge of the Middle East is very limited. This is a funny article that could prove useful if your job involves sounding knowledgeable about such things.
ENJOY!
