What I have been reading - 27th April 2020
Here’s a selection of the pieces I enjoyed reading over the past week:
Bill Gates's vision for life beyond the coronavirus: I find myself often saying 'who could have predicted this'. But people did. Bill Gates had been warning the world about this for years. As had many epidemiologists. The world chose not to listen. Here's Bill Gates on how we move on from this. His confidence on a vaccine is comforting.
How oil prices went subzero: Explaining the COVID-19 oil crash: Here is a nice and fairly straightforward explanation of what happened in the oil markets last month.
Nobody wants much oil right now: Matt Levine at Bloomberg explains it so well.
Why Americans prefer real estate to stocks: As Josh Brown points out here, you can't throw an eighth birthday party for your daughter in your retirement account. But home prices in the US have returned something like one percent over the long, long-term on an inflation adjusted basis while stocks have returned something like seven times that.
When you have no idea what happens next: Please read this piece. That's all.
"Courage! We've have been here before": It's the same message but we need to keep hearing it. And there's some interesting history in this piece too.
FINALLY:
5 ways parents can make their lives easier right now: Some tips for peaceful parenting in a stressful time.
ENJOY!
