What I have been reading - 18th November 2019
There was a lot of good stuff to read this week. I had trouble choosing.
The 5 types of market crash predictions: An excellent piece by Ben Carlson that explains why certain groups of people are always calling for a crash. Remember, "they are not selling predictions, they are selling fear." And fear is easy to sell.
2010 Baccaleureate Remarks: Here are Jeff Bezos' remarks to the Class of 2010 at Princeton University. It's a short, inspiring read. "Cleverness is a gift, kindness is a choice."
The Tail End: This article hit me like a bullet and I have thought about it every day since reading it.
Why don't we know how to protect our time?: I have been thinking a lot about time recently (perhaps after reading the article above) and this was another article that brought a few things home for me.
Boomers want to stay home. Senior housing now faces budding glut: This is an interesting article that highlights how markets change and how investors need to adapt. "This wager on elderly care is falling short of expectations, and there are concerns that it could become one of the biggest real-estate miscalculations in recent memory."
The secrets of successful female networkers: A Harvard Business Review piece that highlight four traits of women who succeed in establishing strong networks.
PODCAST: What it takes with Stephen Schwarzman: Shane Parrish talks to the CEO of The Blackstone Group about how he built one of the largest private equity firms in the world.
FINALLY:
A Christmas Ad: Everyone loves a heartwarming Christmas Ad. I am sharing this one because it was created and produced by my brother and brother-in-law.
ENJOY!
